  ABOUT the CONFERENCE CITY

    A city originally named after its meadows, Campinas was founded in 1774 and lies about 100 kilometers of São Paulo. 
  
 
campinas2 With a population of nearly one million people, Campinas is today an important and growing educational, industrial and financial center. The city has its own Symphony Orchestra - considered one of Brazil's best - theaters, museums, parks, etc. Restaurants serve regional and international dishes, while pubs or "barzinhos" are popular meeting places for stimulating conversations and great music.
   
    As far as city transportation is concerned, Campinas is served by a good transportation network with bus service being the most common way of locomotion. The Viracopos International Airport is also located within 20 minutes from Campinas downtown.
